Haiti - Social : Belated reporting of birth, a simple and rapid procedure

The Ministry of Justice is currently organizing working sessions with the state civil officers in each jurisdiction of the country in order to make them aware around the new presidential order issued January 8, 2014, which simplifies the procedure for late registration of birth. At the School of Magistrates on the road of Frères, the civil officers meet experts from the Ministry that help them to better understand the changes.

Recall that at the term of this decree implemented by the Ministry of Justice, during the next five years, Haitian citizens do not need a judgment to make a late declaration of birth.

People who have never had a birth certificate may claim directly with a registrar State, through their biological parents or a third party authorized by law. This order therefore establishes a simple and rapid procedure and aims to regularize the situation of a large number of Haitians living especially in rural areas, whose parents had never declard the birth.

Those who have lost their birth certificate, may apply to the National Archives or other depositaries of civil status records, in accordance with Article 3 of this Order.
