Haiti - Politic : Toward an Urban Policy for Haiti
Monday has opened the first National Urban Forum, initiated by CIAT (Interministerial Committee for Territorial Planning) on the theme "Building the city". In the program from March 10 to 17 : March 10 to 17 workshops, conferences and visits of urban sites.
This first National Urban Forum follows the Urban Regional Forums of Greater South and of Greater North, which took place earlier this year with for participants the major players in urban development : ppolicy makers, city professionals, private sector, urban operators, academic sector, voluntary sector and citizens. This forum will culminate with the validation of the Declaration of National Urban Forum surrender to the Prime Minister at the end of formal sessions to be held on 12 and 13 March at the Karibe Convention Center.
At the national level, the aim is to acknowledge that the country now has a majority of its population living in cities, to establish a vision and a shared understanding of urban issues and lay the groundwork for a policy for Haiti.
Internationally, the Forum will allow to make hear the voice of Haiti to the World Urban Forum to be held in Colombia in April 2014, which will allow to emerge the regional key issues to carry to the global level, in association with the partners countries in the Caribbean. This is a decisive step for Haiti who will have to make know the choice of Haiti to the Habitat III Conference (2016), an international meeting of prime importance where the global urban policies will be set for the next twenty years.
