Haiti - Politic : 3rd dialogue meeting with the Dominicans

Because of the visit of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden in the Dominican Republic, March 12, 2014, it was agreed between Haiti and the neighboring Republic, that the 3rd meeting of the "Ad hoc" joint commission between the Haitian and Dominican authorities will take place on March 20 in Jacmel.

Health, Tourism and migration will be the priority themes to be discussed at the third meeting, which follows that of Ouanaminthe January 7, 2014 and that of Jimani on 3 February.

This ad hoc committee was set up to find among other things, a solution to the possible nationalization of foreign children, of Haitian descent born in the Dominican territory concerned by the judgment 168-13 of the Constitutional Tribunal (TC) Dominican.

However, it is good to clarify that, contrary to extravagant figures circulating in many Haitian media, citing figures from several hundreds of thousands of people of Haitian origin subject to this decision, the exact number of people involved of Haitian descent, is in fact of 13,672.

Recall that the Central Electoral Council indicated that it had found in the books of the civil state of the country that, 53.847 children of 117 foreign nationalities were registered since 1929. Of these, 29,455 children were legally registered in accordance with the regulations, because their parents were residents and held a national identification card (cedula). The majority of children of foreigners, correspond to people of Haitian descent (36.326) whose 22.689 were inscribed in a regular form and 13,672 would have been improperly with invalid documents. These are those 13.672 who are affected by the decision of denationalization of the Constitutional Tribunal (TC) Dominican.
