Haiti - African Union : Towards a strengthening of the  South/South cooperation

As part of its participation in the 22nd Ordinary Session of the African Union held in Addis Ababa (Ethiop), the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, continued its series of meetings with Heads of State and Government of the African countries for the expansion and strengthening of the South/South cooperation.

Thursday, Laurent Lamothe met with Senegalese President Macky Sall, the two men agreed on the need to establish a technical partnership in the field of fisheries and strengthen their cooperation in higher education. They agreed to intensify the program of scholarships, developed by the two Governments for Haitian students.

Prime Minister Lamothe, also met with South African President Jacob Zuma, around the approximation of the two states. In order to modernize its mining policy, Laurent Lamothe asked the South African President technical support.

They also agreed of an assistance on the improvement of the Haitian national social assistance program (Ede-pèp).

The Head of Government took the opportunity to convey the invitation of President Michel Martelly to his counterpart, Jacob Zuma for an official visit to Haiti. During this meeting, President Zuma promised to soon open an embassy in Haiti.

Prime Minister Lamothe, then attended an important meeting with Ms. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, the President of the Commission of the African Union, around agriculture, food security and social assistance and promised to send a Haitian diplomatic mission to the African Union.

Recall that the participation of Haiti in this great African gathering is part of the consolidation of the South/South and approximation of Haiti with the ancestral continent.
