Haiti - Politic : President Martelly inaugurates the Jose Marti Square in Cap-Haitien

Thursday to Cap-Haitien, the President Michel Martelly, proceeded at the inauguration of the Jose Marti Square, where a bust was erected in honor of the hero of Cuban independence. The ceremony was attended by Rafael Bernard Alemani, Personal Representative of the President of Cuba, Raul Castro, the Cuban Ambassador in Haiti, Ricardo Napoles, Josette Darguste, the Acting Minister of Culture, Archbishop of Cap-Haitien, Mgr. Louis Kébreau, Directors General of the Institute for the Protection of National Heritage (ISPAN), of the National Bureau of Ethnology and the National School of Arts (ENARTS) and capoises authorities.

The square Jose Marti, located near the boulevard of Cap-Haitien, to the street 17 A, is the work of a Haitian architect, in collaboration with students of ENARTS, who made ​​the bust of Cuban, with funding from the Treasury.

To salute the memory of Jose Marti, the Head of State has deposited a wreath and observed a moment of silence at the foot of the Monument to the Cuban hero "This new square bears the name of liberator hero, Jose Marti, has for objective to remind us the memory of his involvement in the war of Cuban independence and a new appreciation for the man who had firmly committed to fighting in favor of self-determination of peoples. It commemorates, also, the genesis of cooperation between the peoples of Haiti and Cuba. Cooperation that still develops for the benefit of Haitian and Cuban citizens."

Adding "Undeniably, this square beautifies the landscape of the city of Cap-Haitien. It presents itself as an inviting space to conviviality and social coherence. Landscaped to provide Capois a place of relaxation and rest, it promises to be a pole color around which will meet the residents of the neighborhood to delight by the pleasure of being together."

For his part, Rafael Bernard Alemani in his speech for the occasion, expressed the gratitude of the Cuban people to the people of Haiti for aid granted to the precursor of Cuban independence.

The bust of Jose Marti, intended to the public square, was presented for the first time Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the Museum of Haitian National Pantheon (MUPANAH) by Philippe Dodard, the Director of ENART during the visit in haiti of Mr. Esteban Lazo Hernandez, President of the National Assembly of Cuba, the Bust of Jose Marti is a work that comes from the foundry of ENARTS. According to Mr. Dodard,this bust symbolizes friendship between Haiti and Cuba.
