Haiti - 8th Festival of Jazz : Concerts and workshops of American jazz group Soul Rebels

The U.S. Embassy is sponsoring Soul Rebels, an American jazz group, at the 8th edition of the International Jazz Festival of Port-au-Prince. The Soul Rebels is composed of an eight-piece New Orleans based brass ensemble that incorporates elements of soul, jazz, funk, hip-hop, rock and pop music within a contemporary brass band framework.

The band consists of percussionists and founding members Lumar LeBlanc and Derrick Moss, trumpet players Julian Gosin and Marcus Hubbard, trombonists Corey Peyton and Paul Robertson, saxophonist Erion Williams, and sousaphonist Edward Lee Jr.Graduates of university music programs throughout the South, the group took the marching band format they had learned in school and incorporated influences including R&B, funk and hip-hop. This group represents the best of American jazz today.

The Soul Rebels schedule of performances :

Friday January 24, 2014 :

The group performs at Place Boyer, scene DIGICEL. The show starts at 6:00 p.m., however, the group performs at 8:00 p.m. Free

Saturday January 25, 2014 :

The group will perform at Canne-à-Sucre (the show begins at 6:00 p.m., and the group performs at 8:00 p.m. Ticket required

Workshops :

In addition to their concerts at the International Jazz Festival, Soul Rebels will present several workshops with music students and musicians.

Wednesday, January 22:

At the National School of Arts (ENARTS) # 266, Rue Mgr Guilloux, Port-au-Prince at 2:00 p.m

Thursday, January 23:

At the Fondation Connaissance et Liberté (FOKAL) #143, Avenue Christophe, Port-au-Prince at 11:00 a.m.

Soul Rebels will promote American music to a broad Haitian public, promote mutual understanding between the Haitian and American people, and showcase the evolution of this American art form.
