Haiti - Economy : New limit for apparel exports from Haiti

The U.S. Department of Commerce has established a new limit on duty-free apparel imports from Haiti for 2014 under the HOPE Act (Haitian Hemispheric Opportunity Through Partnership for Encouragement).

Under the terms of the HOPE Act, a limit is set on the volume of duty-free apparel, which can be exported to the United States from Haiti each year.

Applying to apparel items manufactured and finished in Haiti, the limitation for the year from this Friday, December 20, 2013 will be 322,629,971 m2 of apparel under the program of value added, or 1.25% of the equivalent square meter of all clothing imported into the United States in the year (12-month period ending October 31, 2013).

The Department of Commerce of the International Trade Administration, which defines the limit, indicates that apparel articles entered in excess of these quantities will be subject to otherwise applicable tariffs.
