Haiti - Reconstruction : Closure of the project «Bristou-Bobin Pi Solid»

Saturday on the sports field Bristou-Bobin, a suburb of Petionville, UN-Habitat proceeded to the closing ceremony of the project "Bristou Bobin Pi-Solid" and of awareness activities on good construction practices of the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications (MTPTC).

This UN-Habitat project, funded to the tune of 200,000 euros by the firm "BASF Stiftung" has mobilized and informed the local population on good construction practices by by making both outreach and training activities.

At teh occasion of this ceremony, UN-Habitat proceeded to the delivery of certificates, to the masons who successfully completed the training session on earthquake-resistant construction.

The implementation of the project "Bristou Bobin Pi Solid" has allowed inter alia :

  • The construction of a Community Resource Centre ;

  • The training of 50 masons of neighborhood ;

  • To organize awareness sessions on good construction practices with students from two schools in the neighborhood ;

  • The construction of a demonstration house for the benefit of a family in the community and used as a reference for the dissemination of good practice ;

  • The construction of two monuments erected during the practical phase of training of masons.

All these activities were aimed at improving the skills of professionals in the construction of Bristou-Bobin, but also to promote a habitat better and safer through awareness events and training. Practice guides produced by the Ministry on repairs and the construction of small masonry buildings have been widely disseminated within this population as part of this project.
