Haiti - Education : Qatar will finance the reconstruction of the Faculty of Sciences

According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), His Excellency Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Rumaihi, President of Qatar Fund for the Reconstruction of Haiti (Qatar Haiti Fund) signed an agreement with Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation to finance the reconstruction of the Faculty of Sciences of the State University of Haiti in Port-au-Prince, which includes the faculties of engineering, physics, chemistry, mathematics and natural sciences.

The agreement was signed for the Foundation side by the former US President Clinton's Special Representative and the Deputy Director of Foundation's Office Gregory Millon. The signing of the agreement was attended by the Legal Representative of the Board of Trustees of Qatar's Haiti Fund Robert Wurman.

Under the agreement, the university, completely destroyed by 2010 earthquake, will be able to grant opportunities for more than 1,200 students who are currently receiving study in temporary buildings in the capital, Port-au-Prince.

Al Rumaihi declared in a statement after the signing of the agreement, that the motives of the State of Qatar in the reconstruction of the university are humanitarian motives and will be added to the contributions of Qatar's fund for the reconstruction. Recall that Qatar have pledged a total of $20 million for the Haiti Fund.
