Haiti - Tourism : Project of shelters for hikers

As part of efforts made by the Ministry of Tourism to evaluate tourism capacity and development of the sector in Haiti, especially in the South-East department, working meetings and days of visits between the Departmental Directorate of Tourism, the Spanish Cooperation, the Departmental Directorate of Environment Southeast, CASECS (Boards of communal sections) and Planète Urgence, a French association of international solidarity that intervenes to empower people and protect their environment, were held to discuss a program of shelters, with the participation of stakeholders and local associations.

These shelters placed at Fort Ogé, Étang Bossier and to the Parc la Visite, will be all furnished and fully equipped to accommodate hikers in good conditions. The idea is to combine modern and authentic, such as electricity, water and other sanitary conveniences while retaining the characteristics of local traditional houses.

The objective is to develop the tourism sector and in particular eco-tourism in the region and foster stays in the heart of local communities, to share hikers, lifestyle, customs and meet real people...
